About Us
Bread of Life is an organization that responds to the holistic needs of the families of the Mapalo Township community in Zambia. With services ranging from a primary school, to job training, microfinance, HIV and TB counseling, and home construction, the organization is increasing in breadth and size to respond to all that it can effectively accomplish for its community. Bringing education, health, and job support, Bread of Life currently extends its services to over a thousand people who have no other place to find support in these areas.

Our Community
Mapalo is a beautiful community, filled with a great assortment of aging eucalyptus trees and fruit trees of all assortments. Located on the outskirts of Ndola, Zambia, this shantytown holds 60 000 people in high density. Less than twenty percent of its residents have access to water and electricity, and unemployment sits at 80%. Health and education issues are impacted heavily by these rates, exacerbated by TB and AIDS, and the fact that Bread of Life is one of only two schools providing education for this population (and the only one that many could even consider affording). As beautiful a region and community with its simplistic mud-constructed homes, and despite the vibrancy of the people, the needs for community development are high and Bread of Life team of 17 continues to expand its role at helping our community.

Our History
We began in 2000, with the realization that so many children were not attending schools – for no other reason than there wasn’t any affordable school for most to consider. As our team has grown, we have continued to increase our programs to respond where we could to the needs of our community. Motivated by seeing hope for the community as well as his Christian faith, Executive Director Peter Mumba Chikoseleshi holds great passion for the headway they have made over the past nine years and is ambitious with plans for future expansion of all the programs they currently run, as well as including a few additional medical programs to their scope.
