Idealist Tip File: How To Register Your Nonprofit Organization

Lisa (on the right) with her teammates!

I often receive inquiries about what kinds of organizations are eligible to join our site and how they can go about registering. Here's some information on who can join and how you can get started:

In our directory, we list the following kinds of organizations:

* Nonprofit and community organizations, civil associations, and unions
* Foundations
* Museums and libraries
* K-12 schools and universities
* Departments of parks and recreation & environmental protection agencies
* Peace Corps, AmeriCorps*Vista, and other term of service programs

To register, click on the "Add your organization / group" link found in the upper right-hand corner of the homepage. You will be led through the process of creating or logging in to your individual account and registering your nonprofit organization.

In the registration form, be sure to provide your organization's mission and an email address that is connected to your organization as well as the city and state that your organization is located in. Please do not provide information about specific programs, events, or position opportunities; such information may be added later.

Once your profile has been approved, you'll be able to take advantage of all the tools that Idealist has to offer such as the ability to post your jobs, internships, volunteer opportunities, events, programs, and campaigns. Registration is free for nonprofit organizations and is a simple process. So if your organization isn't already registered, what are you waiting for?

This entry was written by Lisa W., a Content & Support Associate who reviews organizations' profiles and provides general support to Idealist users. In her last post she explained how to repost an old listing.
