HR Networking | E-groups

Thousands of online HR networks have emerged around the world. E-groups and listservs are some of the most popular and effective ways that people discuss HR topics and share resources across cities, states, and borders. To participate, an individual registers in an online group. Registered members send emails to the group email address, which in turn transmits the email to all other registered members, who may then respond to the whole group or to individual members, as appropriate. Nonprofit HR professionals may find that e-groups provide easy access to the latest news, best practices, and job listings.

Here we list e-groups for volunteer administrators and HR professionals located in such places as the Middle East, South Asia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Many of these networks are global and almost all are free of charge. Some may serve as a useful model for starting your own local e-group. Please note, however, that these groups are often unmoderated.

	U.S.-Based Business Immigration News (Biz Immigration) Sponsored by an attorney, this group provides news and information concerning business immigration matters of concern to U.S. employers, professionals, academic institutions, and others. Forum for Volunteer Administrators – Ohio This is an email group for a volunteer administrator network in Cleveland, OH, but it requires membership in the Forum for Volunteer Administrators. Human Resources Colorado Discussion Group This Colorado-oriented discussion list is for experienced HR professionals to ask questions of other seasoned HR business people, share resources and events, refer vendors, fuel a job search, and much more. Labor-L This is a labor network listserv discussing the North American labor movement. Managers of Volunteers for the Environment (MoVE) (Oregon) Based in Portland, OR, this e-group is part of MoVE, a network whose mission is to develop and sustain a community of environmental volunteer program managers. Organization Development Network The Organization Development Network (ODN) is sponsoring this list to provide OD practitioners who work in the Nonprofit Sector, or who would like to do so, with a place to communicate, learn and share resources with one another. Parks and Recreation Volunteer Managers For volunteer managers in the parks and recreation field, the group networks and shares ideas related to volunteer coordination. Topics include the application process, orientation, training, supervision, evaluation, motivation, and recognition. The Montgomery County Association of Volunteer Administrators (MCAVA) This forum provides members of MCAVA, which seeks to support managers of volunteer programs in and around Montgomery County, MD, with the opportunity to network electronically. Training and Development Resources This is a forum for people to discuss training and development issues in a professional, non-commercial, collegial forum. Topics relate to training, learning, and performance.
	International Arabian Human Resources This group exchanges views, news, and world-class events to promote best practices in human resources in the Arab World. CyberVPM This is an international discussion group for volunteer managers operated by the Association for Volunteer Administration (AVA). The group debates a topic of the moment, shares resources, and answers volunteer management questions. Electronic Recruiting Exchange This is a discussion forum for recruiting professionals on the internet. Users can jump into one of the existing discussions or start their own. HR Asia This group promotes cross-border and cross-cultural ties through sharing and learning in the field of human resources, and provides a common platform for practitioners in Asia to meet, discuss, interact, and socialize. HR Masters This group connects HR professionals in the Arab World to share experiences in the field and introduce new ideas and information of interest to HR practitioners. HR Matters 21 This group shares information pertaining to human resource practice in Singapore and the world. HR Pakistan This is a free, international online forum for people in the profession of human resources and training. HR Planners This group shares knowledge and experiences in the field of human resources management (HRM). It also provides a venue for non-HRM people to contribute their thoughts and views of HRM in the changing business world. hr4hr This is a group of HR professionals in Egypt who believe HR plays an integral role for the development of the current business reality in Egypt. HRNET – Human Resources Management Discussion This is an international listserv dedicated to the exchange of ideas between human resource professionals. HRnetwork This is a network of supportive peers in human resources management and administration from around the world. UKVPM's (UK) This is a communication resource for all volunteer programme managers working in the United Kingdom.
